Apiguard works based on thymol, just like Thymovar. Apiguard is a gel that slowly releases thyme vapors. Varroa mites cannot tolerate this. Packaging per set of 2 pieces for 1 beehive. The effect is identical to Thymovar. Scroll to the end of the page for more information. When purchasing more than 5 pieces, we offer an 18% discount!

How does Apiguard work?

Open a tray and place it on the brood box frames so that the bees can access it. After about 2 weeks, this tray will be empty. Now place the second tray on top. Treatment with Apiguard works best when it's still a bit warm outside, preferably right after removing the honey in summer.

Tips for treatment

  • Make sure the worker bees can access the tray. In some hives, space needs to be created above the tray. For example, by using an extra frame or an empty honey super.
  • Leave the trays in the hive until all gel has disappeared.
  • Check for changes in the colony, sometimes an additional treatment in spring is necessary.
  • After starting the treatment, the colony may react with temporary but harmless agitation.
  • During treatment, the characteristic smell of thymol may be detected.
  • NOTE: Use only one tray for small or weak colonies.
