Wicks & wicking

Want to make your own candles and looking for the right wick? With us you’ll find special round wick suitable for making beeswax candles, but also usable for paraffin wax, other wax types, oil lamps, and outdoor torches.

Our wick is available in various sizes, from No. 0 to No. 20, which indicate the thickness of the wick. This means you can choose the right wick for your specific candles, depending on how thick you want your candles to be. There are also sample packs of (tealight) wick with multiple sizes in smaller quantities.

Please note that beeswax burns less consistently than, for example, paraffin wax, and that every batch of beeswax can burn differently. Always use the right wick for your specific candles to prevent them from going out too soon or burning too hot. Tip: always make test candles with 3 wick sizes to determine the best wick choice. Let test candles cure for a few days (or a night in the freezer) for the best test result. Order your favorite wick now and make your own candles just the way you want!

Which wick sizes are available and which should I choose?

When making candles, it’s important to choose the right wick to ensure your candles burn properly. For example, if you use too thick a wick for candles made from beeswax or another wax type, the candle may burn too hot and burn down too fast, have an oversized flame, etc. It’s therefore advisable to choose the correct wick for your specific candles to prevent them from going out unintentionally or burning too hot. Our wick range offers a wide choice of sizes, from number 0 to number 20, which indicate wick thickness. The higher the number, the thicker the wick. Below are the thicknesses and the approximate length per spool (in meters) of our wick listed for you:

  • Number 0: thickness of 1.7 mm, length of 1250 m
  • Number 1: thickness of 1.8 mm, length of 1110 m
  • Number 2: thickness of 1.9 mm, length of 950 m
  • Number 3: thickness of 2 mm, length of 850 m
  • Number 4: thickness of 2.1 mm, length of 750 m
  • Number 5: thickness of 2.2 mm, length of 680 m
  • Number 6: thickness of 2.3 mm, length of 600 m
  • Number 7: thickness of 2.4 mm, length of 560 m
  • Number 8: thickness of 2.5 mm, length of 520 m
  • Number 10: thickness of 2.7 mm, length of 430 m
  • Number 12: thickness of 2.9 mm, length of 350 m
  • Number 14: thickness of 3.2 mm, length of 290 m
  • Number 16: thickness of 3.6 mm, length of 250 m
  • Number 18: thickness of 3.8 mm, length of 210 m
  • Number 20: thickness of 4.1 mm, length of 190 m

With this information, you can choose the right wick for your specific candles, depending on the diameter you want. This way your candles will always burn well and have the look you’re after.

Tip: always make test candles with 3 wick sizes to determine the best wick choice in combination with your chosen wax type. Let test candles cure for a few days (or overnight in the freezer) for the best test result.
