Thymovar is a treatment from Andermatt BioVet for the Varroa mite. It works by means of volatile substances that evaporate in the hive, which the Varroa mite cannot tolerate. Each pack contains 2 x 5 strips. Use 1 strip per brood box (brood chamber). For a Dadant hive you can use 1.5 strips per brood box (brood chamber).
Suitable for use after the last honey harvest and very easy to use. Place the required number of strips in the hive, optionally fix them with a small nail, and the treatment begins. Supplied with very clear instructions in Dutch!
Always shipped via PostNL parcel due to value.

When you order Thymovar, you naturally want to know how to use it in a beehive. The Thymovar comes with clear Dutch instructions from Andermatt Biovet for use in a beehive. Below we outline how a Thymovar treatment works when you want to use it in a beehive.
Treating a colony with Thymovar
Treatment with Thymovar strips is quite straightforward. For best efficacy, all colonies should be treated twice. For the first treatment, place 1 strip on the hive frames of the upper brood box (brood chamber) for 3 to 4 weeks. Do you use a Dadant hive? In that case, because this hive is quite large, you can use 1.5 strips per brood box (brood chamber). The second treatment proceeds in exactly the same way. During treatment, a thymol vapor is released from the strips. The varroa mite cannot tolerate this and dies.
The treatment period with Thymovar starts right after the last honey harvest, at the end of summer, around July/ August. The total treatment period (based on 2 treatments) is about 8 weeks.
Thymovar can be an effective and, above all, easy treatment method for controlling varroa. The main advantage of Thymovar is its ease of use. No vaporizers are involved, which avoids the risk of you coming into contact with harmful substances. You only need to place the strips in your beehive, making Thymovar very simple to use. It is also natural, making it an excellent choice for the environmentally conscious beekeeper.
If you have some Thymovar strips left over after treating your colony(ies), it’s best to immediately seal the package with the remaining strips ‘airtight’, i.e. well sealed with tape, to close it. This way the efficacy remains for quite some time and you can use the remaining strips a few weeks later for a 2nd treatment. Possibly, if sealed very well, the strip may even be usable next season.
How do you pack the remaining strip ‘airtight’? Cut the top of the package. Remove the number of strips you need. Slide the remaining strips straight back horizontally into the bag. Seal the opening ‘airtight’ with tape. Then roll the end up 3 times and tape it again. The package is now as good as airtight.
