Skeps come in various sizes and shapes and are highly decorative in the garden too! Browse our wide selection below and choose the skep that suits you. What’s your favorite model? A small queen skep as decoration, or a large skep, also called kieps, to house a queen with her retinue. A skep beekeeper today often keeps their bees in a skep to keep the tradition alive. The skep beekeeper generally does not do this for harvesting honey. For this, a beehive with hive frames is much more practical.

Where should I place a bee skep?
You can place a bee skep right in your own backyard. We have a few tips for placing a beekeeper’s bee skep. We recommend placing the bee skep near/ under a canopy/ shelter. This keeps the skep dry when it rains. We also advise placing the bee skep on dry ground and on a small elevation, for example on a board resting on two crates or on a stand.
Which material for a bee skep?
Our range of bee skeps comes in various sizes and styles. The Large Bee Skep is a woven bee skep made from rye straw with an entrance hole. Our Queen Skep is also made from rye straw and looks great as decoration or to style the garden. Our Fair Trade bee skeps are made from tightly woven seagrass. Seagrass has the look and feel of a skep made from bentgrass/piping straw. The skeps are available in 10 different sizes. These skeps are Fair Trade, helping support communities in the poorest provinces of Rangpur and Bogra in Bangladesh. The seagrass and the natural materials used are harvested in a way that causes no harm to the environment.
