The Warré hive is ideal for the beginner beekeeper, as it requires little start-up equipment. The Warré hive originated in France and was developed by Émile Warré to make beekeeping simple with minimal intervention with the bees. Émile Warré developed the hive in the early 20th century to counter the declining number of beekeepers in France. In this category you will find our full range of Warré hives and accessories.
Beekeeping according to the Warré method has the advantage that the bees build their own honeycomb in the Warré hive, just as in nature. Ideal if you want to practice natural beekeeping. Beekeeping with Warré also has the advantage that the hive can optionally include hive frames, making it easy to monitor colony development without disturbing the bees. Because little start-up equipment is required, Warré hives are very suitable for new beekeepers.
All Warré hives in our range are made of pine and include standard parts such as a bottom board, a pitched roof, a quilt box and a cover board. Depending on the model you choose, the Warré hive is available in different configurations. The brood boxes and honey supers are identical in the Warré hive. Some variants we offer are the ‘Warré Hive Easy’, the ‘Warré Hive Deluxe’ and our ‘Warré Hive Premium’. It is also possible to fit the Premium Warré hive’s pitched roof with aluminium roofing. Almost all parts of the Warré hive are also sold separately, so you can easily order extras.
The external dimensions of a Warré hive are 34 x 34 cm. A brood box (brood chamber) holds 8 top bars. The length of these top bars is 32 cm. Prefer to work with hive frames? That is of course also possible. For the Warré hive there are special-size hive frames and beeswax foundation. As with the top bars, 8 hive frames fit in a Warré brood box (brood chamber).
