A glass crown board is even included with the deluxe model, so you can monitor the colony without fully opening the hive and disturbing the colony. Imkershop sells, among others, the Spaarkast, Segeberger, Dadant, Dadant-Blatt (Frankenbeute), Langstroth, Top Bar Hive and Warré beehives, plus various other types such as Apimaye. In addition, in this category you’ll also find components such as a bottom board, a roof, an extra brood box, etc. The components use standard dimensions, so parts within a given model are mutually interchangeable.

[category id=290]Plastic beehives[/category] are an alternative to traditional [category id=3]wooden beehives[/category]. They are made from durable plastics that withstand the elements. Plastic beehives offer several advantages over wooden beehives. They are lightweight and therefore easy to lift, simple to clean & maintain, and provide good insulation.
Another advantage of plastic beehives is that they sometimes do not need to be painted to extend their lifespan.
It is important in summer to ensure adequate ventilation (openings) to prevent the beehive from overheating. All in all, plastic beehives offer several advantages over traditional wooden hives. Want to buy a plastic beehive? As a beekeeper, it is important to carefully consider which option best suits your specific needs and circumstances.
Hive frames for your beehive and beeswax foundation are essential beekeeping supplies. They are available assembled and unassembled. Beeswax foundation also comes in various types and sizes, from cast beeswax to rolled beeswax or drone foundation. The foundation is available Without Saw Cut and With Saw Cut. You’ll also find products for assembling frames such as frame wire and eyelets.
Isn't a traditional bee skep just beautiful? Besides being beautiful, a skep is also extremely practical for catching swarms and/or housing a colony. Skeps come in various sizes and shapes and are highly decorative in the garden too! Browse our wide selection below and choose the skep that suits you. What’s your favorite model? A small queen skep as decoration, or a large skep, also called kieps, to house a queen with her retinue. A skep beekeeper today often keeps their bees in a skep to keep the tradition alive. The skep beekeeper generally does not do this for harvesting honey. For this, a [category id=55]beehive[/category] with hive frames is much more practical.

We’re happy to get you started! Imkershop also has the right beehive for you. We offer “Starter”, “Easy” and “Deluxe” beehives in wood and/or plastic, so you can get to work right away in your own garden or at your apiary! As a beginner beekeeper, it’s common to start with a spaarkast. That’s because this hive is the most common size in the Netherlands. A local beekeeper or association can then easily help you obtain a colony on the correct frame size for your hive. Unsure which to choose? Feel free to contact us.
If you place your beehives in your own garden, it’s a great opportunity to learn even more from nature every day. You’ll see, for example, how important climate is for bees, and you’ll experience the differences between honey bees, solitary bees and wasps. Before you buy a beehive that’s offered for sale, it’s advisable to visit an experienced beekeeper and observe. The books “Eerste Hulp Bij Imkeren – E.H.B.I.) and “Bijenhouden Hoe doe je dat?” are also standard works for the (beginning) beekeeper. In your own garden, place a beehive with the entrance facing south or southeast. To prevent drifting (from one hive to another), about one meter between hives is the best positioning. It’s also helpful to set them on a stand, about 40 cm off the ground. This keeps ground moisture at bay and gives you a comfortable working height. Beekeeping is a fascinating hobby that keeps surprising you and you’ll continue to learn. No beekeeping season is the same!
In nature, a colony usually nests in a hollow tree, chimney or other cavity. A beehive typically has a capacity of about 30–60 liters. It’s a perfect replacement for such a natural space. The beekeeper can then manage the colony more easily and it’s protected from the elements. Imkershop’s wooden hives are distinguished by high-quality pine, red cedar and the option of ‘Easy grip’ boxes with handles running the full width of the front and back of brood boxes and honey supers. That makes lifting much easier. Red cedar can be used untreated right away. To prevent discoloration, you can treat these hives with Propoleum or linseed oil. Pine hives are best thoroughly painted or treated with Propoleum for a long service life. Want to expand a hive or replace a part? All components are also available separately.
A plastic beehive is ideal for beekeepers who prefer not to lift heavy boxes. Beehives made from styropor/EPS (expanded polystyrene) or high-density polystyrene have the big advantage of being ultra-light. These plastic beehives provide excellent insulation and are also very easy to paint. They come in many different sizes and are also available pre-painted. They are keenly priced and, provided the plastic is recycled, also sustainable. Another type of rigid plastic hive is the Apimaye beehive, which uses larger frames (Dadant or Langstroth). In short, there’s plenty of choice in plastic hives too.
For beekeepers who want to work with a skep, multiple designs and sizes are available—from a small decorative queen skep to an extra-large Fair Trade skep. The Holland skeps are made from rye straw, the Fair Trade skeps from seagrass, as are the SunHives. These last two are handmade, come in many sizes and shapes, and your purchase also supports communities in the poorest provinces of Rangpur and Bogra in Bangladesh.
