Tools for working with bees, such as smokers and hive tools.

  • Bee smokers

A [category id=2]bee smoker[/category] is an essential part of a beekeeper's kit. Although you can also work with a spray bottle of water, a smoker is often necessary. A spray bottle only works with fairly calm bees, whereas a smoker calms bees. This lets you work freely. The smoke from the smoker makes bees gorge on honey, making them less likely to sting. Bees gorge because they think there is a fire and need to take stores with them if they have to flee.

  • Hive tools

One of the first tools a beekeeper buys is a hive tool. To open the hive and to inspect the hive frames in a beehive. Bees fasten the frames with beeswax and propolis. With a hive tool you can easily lift the frames out without damaging the hive. You use a hive tool or frame lifter a lot, so it’s important to choose one that fits well in the hand. A combination with a scraper is generally very practical. With the many types and sizes available, there’s sure to be a model that suits you.

  • Tobacco

In beekeeping, smoke is often used to calm the bees. The bees think there’s a fire and fill up on honey. Because they’re laden with this precious cargo, the bees are less defensive. In the smoker or smoker pipe, various types of smoker fuel—from herbs to blocks—can be used to produce smoke! For example, there’s a smoker fuel made primarily from tobacco scrap, and a smoker fuel made of hay, and how about a blend of dried grasses, optionally scented with, for example, lavender? In short, choose your preferred smoker fuel!

  • Bee brushes & cleaning brushes

Various types of bee brushes for clearing bees from hive frames. The brushes are available with both synthetic and natural bristles. Brushing bees off is useful, for example, when removing the honey super.

  • Transport & moving

The travel screens and separators can be found under hive parts. Transporting bees is a breeze with the right preparation and beekeeping tools. In the evening, seal the hive entrance with a piece of tape or a foam strip. Optionally place a travel screen or separator on the brood box or honey super for extra ventilation. Then wrap a travel strap or ratchet strap around it and you're done. Extra travel-strap handles are handy if the hive's handles are awkwardly positioned.

Smokers and Dathe pipes are used intensively by beekeepers. It’s a shame when a smoker part breaks. To keep your smoker or pipe from being ‘retired’ right away, you’ll find spare parts for smokers and pipes here.

Here you’ll find everything related to swarms: swarm collection bags for collecting a bee swarm, as well as swarm lures for catching a bee swarm. These lures include a pheromone attractant to attract bee swarms.

  • Dathe smoker pipes

Dathé pipes for smoking your hive. The advantage of a Dathé pipe over a bee smoker is that it keeps both hands free so you can work your bees. You blow smoke over the colony without using your hands, which calms the bees.
