Jar with 50 g bee pollen. Bees collect pollen from flowers, add enzymes and some nectar, and form pellets that they stick to their hind legs for transport; these pellets are called bee pollen. Bees collect pollen as a protein source. This bee pollen is about 35% protein. Besides protein, it also contains carbohydrates, fats, and many minerals (potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, sulfur, manganese, silicon, copper), and amino acids. But it doesn’t stop there: bee pollen contains the vitamins (B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (nicotinamide), B6 (pyridoxine), B8 (biotin), B9 (folic acid), B12), nicotinic acid, vitamin C (ascorbic acid), pantothenic acid, and, to a lesser extent, A (retinol), D (ergosterol), E (tocopherol), K (phytomenadione), and rutin. This composition makes it a very healthy addition to your diet. Our bee pollen is harvested in the Netherlands or the EU and is therefore relatively local. Give it a try and stir it into your yogurt, for example, or start the day energized with a teaspoon of bee pollen. These days, bee pollen is considered a superfood.
Note: it’s wise to start with small amounts, as some people can react strongly to bee pollen.
