Yellow cones for Asian hornet trap 10 pieces

These yellow cones for Asian hornet traps, sold in a set of 10, are intended for making a selective trap for the Asian hornet. Ideal for making your own traps or creating a trap with multiple entrances.

To catch the Asian hornet queen, the holes in the cones should be enlarged to 8.5 mm. Asian hornet queens can pass through an 8.5 mm opening, but European hornet queens cannot. Enlarge the opening with, for example, an 8.5 mm drill bit, or heat the cone with a heat gun and then push the 8.5 mm drill bit through. At this size you can also catch workers.

WARNING: When heating the opening, the cones can fuse together if you work on several cones at once! Separate them in time or enlarge the opening one cone at a time!

If, however, you only want to catch workers, the opening should be between 7.8 and 8 mm. The current size of the inlet hole is approximately 7.25 mm; the outside diameter is 47.6 mm.

By mounting the cone in a queen excluder, smaller insects can exit the trap again. Tip: mount the cone in a small piece of PVC queen excluder. From a Dadant queen excluder 50 x 50 (prod. 1096) you can make several small excluder pieces.
