Swarm trap

The swarm trap is designed to catch the swarm that wants to leave the hive. A swarm that wants to swarm out of a hive will create a bee beard. This is a collection of bees on the hive. This retreats for a moment before they go and this is the time to mount the swarm trap on the hive. After this, the swarm comes off and is trapped in the swarm trap.

Hive beekeepers often know when a swarm is coming off, and with this swarm trap you can catch and preserve your precious swarm. In Germany, it is traditionally used on the Lüneburger Stülper.
