Simplex double-walled 46 x 46 (Belgian)

The Simplex saving hive is a hive in the Belgian size Simplex double-walled (i.e. front and back are double-walled). This means that these hives have an outer dimension of 46 cm x 46 cm and are made for hanging eleven windows. Because of the double outer wall on the front and back, the Simplex hive is better insulated. Because of the better insulation, spring development will start faster.

What distinguishes this cabinet (Belgian) from other cabinets?

This hive, consisting of a bottom, a deck shelf, a brood box and a roof is as Simplex bijenkast 46 x 46 cm an excellent hive for a new/small population if you are beekeeping with the size of Belgian windows (length top bar usually 40-42 cm). It is then a suitable model to start with as a beekeeper. You can easily expand this hive with additional brood and/or honey chambers.

In addition, because of the double-walled sides, the cabinet is also better insulated than cabinets with single-walled sides. Therefore, the balance of moisture is very optimal. Also, the hive can be easily inspected by just lifting the roof and taking out the brood chamber windows.

The advantages of a Simplex savings cabinet double walled

The Simplex hive has a number of advantages. For example, the hive forms one unit. The outside of the brooding and honey chamber(s) also serves as the outside of the hive.

A complete Simplex thrift box also requires a roof and a loose bottom. The bottom contains a flight board and flight hole. The flight board is mounted to the bottom and is foldable, thanks to a piano hinge. In our case, the bottom has a slide-out varroa tray. This allows you to properly monitor whether the bees are suffering from varroa mites and how severe the infestation is. The varroa mites fall onto the varroalade.

The varroa mite is something every beekeeper has to deal with, fortunately there are a number of ways to control them. For example by using the new oxalic acid vaporizer 'the Varrofix' or by one of our other articles, found on this page.
