This hive is named after the renowned German zoologist, beekeeper and bee connoisseur, Prof. Dr. Enoch Detlef Hartwig Zander (1873-1957), who introduced the design in collaboration with beekeeper Johann Merz around 1900. His contributions to the scientific study of honey bees have gained worldwide recognition. This hive provided faster warming of the space, which was beneficial to the bees' activities, especially for comb expansion.

The Zander hives are notable for their low height but considerable depth. This design allowed both the brooding and honey chambers to be the same size. This made it easy to exchange windows between honey and brood chamber. And thus very easily apply comb renewal.

Zander's research led to important discoveries in beekeeping, including the discovery of the cause of Nosema disease in 1909. He also developed pioneering methods for queen breeding in Germany. Recognition: Enoch Zander's contributions have been extensively recognized. He has written about 500 publications on beekeeping and received several awards, including the Goethe Medal for Arts and Sciences.

The Zander hive combines scientific research with practical application in beekeeping. For more than a century, it has provided beekeepers with a practical and effective way to keep bees and produce honey. For those interested in beekeeping, the Zander hive remains an excellent choice because of its proven track record and versatility.
