Scalvini queen cage

The Scalvini cage is a recent development for caging the queen during varroa treatment. The queen can be kept inside; she can lay eggs, but the cells are not drawn out because there isn’t enough space. No new brood will be produced and after 21 days all brood has emerged, creating a broodless period. Because there is no sealed brood left, this period is ideal for treating the bees against varroa with oxalic acid. Trickling, spraying, or vaporizing.
