The bees pack the pollen into the comb and mix it with drops of nectar. This creates hexagonal chunks that slightly acidify and are thus preserved by the bees. The bee bread is full of vitamins and is a good source of protein. It also contains carbohydrates, fats and many minerals (potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, sulfur, manganese, silicon, copper) and amino acids. The vitamins found in pollen are also present in bee bread such as (B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (nicotinamide), B6 (pyridoxine), B8 (biotin), B9 (folic acid) and B12), nicotinic acid, vitamin C (ascorbic acid), pantothenic acid, and to a lesser extent A (retinol), D (ergosterol), E (tocopherol), K (phytomenadione) and rutin).
