The Varrofix evaporator is a small device that can be easily slid into (almost) all hives. The height is about 6 mm, the width about 4 cm and the length is 28 cm. Using a dosing spoon, you brush the amount of oxalic acid onto the Varrofix vaporizer. As soon as the Varrofix is turned on, it heats up to sublimate (evaporate) the oxalic acid at exactly the right temperature. After evaporation, the entire cabinet is coated with oxalic acid dust. From this, the mites cannot escape. The mites die within 24 hours when their foot soles come into contact with the crystals.

You can find a battery for the Varrofix hier evenals een accu oplader/druppelaar.

When you order the Varrofix vaporizer you will receive:
* the Varrofix vaporizer
* Connection cord
* a handy measuring spoon for 1 gram
* a bottle of oil
* an information flyer/user manual.

Tip: order right away oxaalzuur If you no longer have this in stock.

Work safely as advised in the gids van bijen@wur (free download; see books, manuals).

The beekeeper is strongly advised to wear a protective mouth mask (absolutely do not inhale fumes and work so that the fumes blow away from you).

More info

Benefits of Varrofix:

  • Evaporation is done without opening the hive. The 6 mm evaporator fits through (almost) any flight hole.
  • After sublimation, the cabinet is completely filled with oxalic acid dust so that no mite can escape
    (Note: oxalic acid dust does not penetrate the closed brood).
  • The Varrofix is very economical, (0.40Ah). With a small 12 Ah battery, 10 x can be vaporized.
  • The Varrofix brings little heat into the cabinet, the temperature remains within the oxalic acid dust evaporation range of 157°C -189°C.
  • Vaporizing is safe to apply and even safer with a timer.
  • Low purchase price compared to other vaporizers.
  • Only 1 gram of oxalic acid is required per treatment.
  • Oxalic acid is a natural product. It cannot cause environmental damage.
    Caution, inhalation is extremely dangerous and harmful to the lungs!
  • No resistance to the use of oxalic acid occurs.
  • No residues remain in the beeswax or honey.
  • Sublimation is the most efficient way to control varroa.

Tips for use in a plastic hive:
  • Do not allow the Varrofix evaporator to come into direct contact with the EPS/plastic material/varroab base mesh
  • Solve this by placing/attaching the Varrofix on, for example, a board of plywood. Let the end of the board extend about 2 cm beyond the vaporizer.
  • Make sure the oxalic acid does not run off the evaporator without evaporating by placing the shelf/varrofix horizontally in the cabinet to seal the cabinet.
