How does Apiguard work?
Open a tray and place it on the brood chamber windows so that the bees can reach it. After about 2 weeks, this tray will be empty. Now place the second tray on top. Treatment with Apiguard works best when it is still a little warm outside, preferably right after honey collection in the summer.
Treatment tips
- Make sure the worker bees can reach the tray. In some hives, a space must be made above the tray. For example, by an additional attachment window or an empty honey room.
- Leave the trays in the cabinet until all the gel is gone.
- Check for changes in the population; sometimes another treatment is needed in the spring.
- After starting treatment, the people may well react with agitation, which is temporary but harmless.
- During treatment, the characteristic odor of thymol may be observed.
- CAUTION: Use only one container for small or weak colonies.
