VarroMed by BeeVital is a varroa control agent. It replaces HiveClean. VarroMed can be applied in all seasons. The biogical beekeeper can also use VarroMed without any problem. The active ingredients are oxalic acid and formic acid. It should not be used during honey delivery but can be used before and after. When do I treat my bees with VarroMed in the spring?
Treatment should be performed at the beginning of the season with increasing colony population and when the natural mite trap is more than 1 mite per day. Treatment should be repeated two more times (i.e. up to a maximum of 3 treatments) if more than 10 mites are found on the bottom plate within 6 days of the first treatment (maximum of 3 treatments).
When do I treat my bees with VarroMed in the Fall?
Treatment should be carried out as soon as possible in late summer/early fall when colony populations are declining and when the natural mite trap exceeds 4 mites per day. Treatment should be repeated twice, 6 days apart (i.e. 3 administrations). The treatment should be repeated twice more (i.e., up to a maximum of 5 treatments) if more than 150 mites (second-year colonies) or more than 90 mites (first-year core colonies) are found on the soil plate within 6 days of the first administration.
When do I treat my bees with VarroMed in the winter?
Treatment should be carried out at the beginning of the broodless period in hives with Varroainfestation. In winter, only one treatment should be carried out.
When do I treat my bees with VarroMed?
Varromed should be used mainly at times when bees have low flight activity (late afternoon, evening). Darkness promotes dispersal among bees. To avoid overdoses in individual bees, care should be taken to distribute VarroMed evenly throughout the bees, especially in the winter cluster. VarroMed should not be used during honey delivery, or when honey chambers are on the hive. Before use, VarroMed should be warmed 25 to 35°C, then shaken well. It is recommended that wax bridges be removed between the top slats of windows prior to administration of the veterinary drug. The windows should not be lifted during administration and for about one week after the last treatment. To determine the Varroa infestation level in a hive, mite mortality should be monitored: mite fall on the hive bottom plate should be recorded before the first treatment and for up to 6 days after each treatment. All colonies placed in the same location should be treated at the same time to minimize the risk of reinfestation.
