Small chest beetle trap reusable

This small trap for the closet beetle (Aethina tumida) is made of hard plastic and is a small and handy piece of equipment to monitor the hive for the hive beetle and catch the hive beetle. This trap is made of hard plastic and therefore lends itself well to multiple uses. The hive beetle is a threat to European bee colonies because a few beetles can quickly destroy an entire hive. When monitoring bee colonies, one of these traps is sufficient. If there is an infestation, 2-3 traps per hive are recommended. The trap measures 17 x 3 x 0.8 cm (wxhxd).

How does the small hive beetle trap work?
The trap is filled with a small layer of oil. The trap has small holes that the bees cannot enter but the small hive beetle can. It will walk over the trap and fall in and stick to the layer of oil. When the trap is full, it can be removed. To attract the hive beetle, a layer of apple cider vinegar can be added to the trap in addition to a layer of oil. The apple cider vinegar acts as a lure for the small hive beetle.
