The Asian hornet trap (Vespacatch) consists of the following parts:

The Deluxe hornet trap is a highly advanced trap for Asian hornets, a proven concept widely used in Asia and perhaps one of the best Asian hornet traps currently available. This Asian hornet trap consists of several components. From top to bottom: live trap for Asian hornets, which allows other smaller animals to pass through, such as common wasps, moths, etc. Beneath that a ‘roof’ so the lure does not become contaminated and lasts longer. At the bottom is the reservoir that holds the lure liquid to attract the hornets.

The hornets enter via the yellow entrance gate. They then gather in the transparent globe and cannot get back out. This globe can be unscrewed and the Asian hornets can then be removed. This can be done in 3 ways. We recommend the first method, namely to place the globe in the freezer for at least 24 hours. Another method is to submerge the globe in water for a certain period. And the last method is to heat the globe using the hot air from a torch. For the last method, it is important to keep a distance of 10 to 15 cm from the globe and heat only briefly in one spot, otherwise the plastic will deform. We always recommend using the freezer method, if possible. This is the most humane method, because the hornets first become stupefied.

Hornet trap supplied in red or yellow, complete with glass jar, which can be used hanging or laid flat. The plastic cover cap prevents rain from getting into the jar and onto the lure. Pour some lure into the jar, screw on the hornet entrance, and place the jar along the hornets’ flight paths, or hang it up using a string on the loops. You can then attach the hornet trap to, for example, a branch.
